We’re gearing up for the 14th year of our Share a Haircut program, which gives our younger Hair Cuttery clients* an opportunity to help kids in need by providing them with a free haircut for back to school. Since the program’s launch in 1999, Hair Cuttery has donated more than 700,000 back-to-school haircuts, and we expect to donate up to 100,000 haircut certificates this year!
A free haircut can go a long way for any family, especially those in need. According to the National Retail Federation last year, the average cost of back-to-school spending for kindergarten through 12th grade is $668.
Starting August 1, we will donate one free haircut to a child in need for every child’s haircut* purchased at a Hair Cuttery salon during the month of August. All 900 salons nationwide will be participating in this annual event, so stop by our Salon Locator page to find a location near you.
If there aren’t any Hair Cuttery salons in your area, or your child isn’t due for a haircut just yet, you can donate through the new widget on our blog and the Hair Cuttery Facebook Page starting August 1. You can also follow the Share a Haircut conversation on our Twitter feed by keeping an eye on the #Shareahaircut hashtag.
Why is the Share a Haircut program so important to us as a company? Our Founder and CEO Dennis Ratner explained it best: “Share a Haircut is about the ritual of preparing for a new school year. A new haircut symbolizes a new start and new possibilities. We want kids to associate feeling good about themselves with getting ready for back to school.” We can’t wait to see how many of you come out to support this important cause and help children in need start the school year off right!
