Last week I attended a reception at the Sphinx Club in D.C. to honor Ratner Companies' president, Susan Gustafson, and a number of other outstanding area business women for their impeccable entrepreneurial spirit and passion for giving back to the community. It is called the Brava! Women Business Achievement Award and it is given by SmartCEO Magazine. About twelve colleagues from our Resource Center joined the festivities and loudly (we're a pretty enthusiastic group) rooted Susan on as she was called to the stage to accept her award. I was thrilled for Susan; I am very proud to work with such an outstanding woman- she truly deserved this award. I was also incredibly moved when each of the other honorees was recognized for their work in myriad businesses: Health care, Security, Banking, Non-Profit, Government Contracting and many others. Like Susan, these women have managed to successfully juggle challenging careers, families and support for their communities. They have also encouraged that sense of passion and balance among the employees they lead. The message I took away that evening was that maybe we can have it all, as long as we keep our priorities straight and we have role models like Susan to inspire us.
