Hair Trends: Contemporary & Otherwise

When it comes to hair styles, trends come and go. Sometimes they return, reimagined and updated to dovetail nicely into new fashion trends and attitudes. Other times they stay where they should in the black and white pages of magazines and look books of history.

We recently put the following question to our Hair Cuttery Facebook Fans:

We are building a list of the most memorable hairstyles and trends of all time, from *any* time. What would you put on that list?

We received a large number of great responses. The following, in no particular order, were among the most mentioned:

“The Rachel”

“The Farrah Fawcett”

“The Wedge” inspired by Dorothy Hamill

“The Beehive”

“The Pixie Cut” inspired by Mia Farrow

“The Page Boy”

“Mall Bangs”

“Fingerwaves”

“Victory Rolls”

“The Flip”

“The Shag”

“The Posh Bob”

And as for men’s hairstyles…

“The Pompadour”

“The Bowl Cut”

Some other hairstyles mentioned by our Fans reflected trends both retro and contemporary:

  1. “The Toni Tennille”
  2. “The Purdey”
  3. “The Rat Tail”
  4. Spiral Perms
  5. “The Caesar”
  6. Flat Tops
  7. Jherri Curl
  8. “The Bieber”
  9. Mohawks

These are all great suggestions. Maybe you’ve even sported one of these ’dos before. What other styles can you think of that aren’t included on our list?
