The 2011 Redken Symposium took place in Las Vegas this past week and boasted over 9,000 Stylists, 1,200 of which were international attendees from 44 countries, and over 200 were Hair Cuttery Stylists. Redken has a rich heritage of innovative products and services, fashion-focused trends and techniques, and inspiring personal-based educational programs. The Redken Symposium combined all of these in one place for three power-packed days of advanced education that inspires the future of the industry.
Symposium highlights included:
The Gallerie: An exhibit hall for vendors and instructors alike which contained a great selection of products, cool t-shirts, hoodies, bags, professional tools and more, all at Symposium-exclusive pricing. Symposium speakers were also present (when not leading a seminar) to answer questions.
Grand Opening: A grandiose opening event for the Symposium full of music, models, ribbon dancers and of course, fantastic hair! Check out photos of Grand Opening on our Hair Cuttery Facebook page: http://on.fb.me/fxtCym
2011 Symposium Bash: An evening of food, drink as well as a performance by special musical guest, Train!
Educational Sessions: Here are some highlights from a few select courses:
Design & Color Educational Sessions:
“Counter-Trend” (led by Brent Borreson, Leah Freeman, Carmody Homan & Justin Isaac): “See every day with fresh eyes and be empowered to try new things.”
Session takeaways:
2011 Color Trends:
>>Red , red and more red! It’s the year for red hair color and capturing brightness with soft results.
>>Overall, vibrant colors are being used to modernize traditional cuts and styles. Parting is simple and colors are full bodied.
2011 Makeup Trend:
>>Jewel tones have mutated into hard metallics and bright reds.
>> Warmth is out. Flashy is in.
“Twisted” (led by Danny Felstead & Jill Leitz): “Unravel the mystery, eliminate the fear and learn to speak the language of curly hair.”
Session takeaways:
Curly Hair Product Tips:
>>Emulsify product in palms and on back of hands. Run hands through hair from scalp to the ends.
>>When applying Fresh Curls Curl Boost, lean your head over to the left and right and spray product into your hair. Lightly scrunch in by pushing hair up with the palms of your hands-like an accordion closing.
>>For Medium to fine curls, apply soft spin 05 to mid-lengths and ends. Follow with ringlet07 and place in hair by twisting or twirling each section back on itself.
“Arsenal of Men” (led by Lauren Hagen & Shannon King): “Equip yourself with an arsenal of tools, techniques, & tips for the ultimate in male client service.”
Session takeaways:
Men’s Hair Product Tips
>>Redken for Men products give male clients the confidence and ability to rotate their look and keep it fully customizable! Shine form applied to dry hair gives a sculpted result. Work hard, high rise and outplay applied into damp to dry hair adds texture with concentrated shape and a matte finish. Grip tight applied to wet or dry hair creates mild to maximum hold.
The next Symposium will take place in 2014. Check Redken’s site at: http://www.redkensalon.com/ for more information in the coming months.
