Redken To The Rescue!!

My vacation this summer took me to the beautiful beaches of South Carolina where the sun was shining and I was outside enjoying every moment of it. I spent most of time on the beach working on my tan or playing in the salty waves of the Atlantic. Unfortunately even though I was was loving all of this relaxing beach time my hair didn’t feel the same way. I returned after 10 days with stressed out hair that was a shade lighter,  highlights that got bleached out and ends that were desperate for moisture and some TLC.

I’m not being dramatic when I say my hair was a wreck! It just looked dry, awful and the color needed serious help. This is definitely NOT a good thing for a hair stylist. My hair should look great so I can look the part when I suggest different services to clients. After wearing my hair up for a week to hide the damage I decided the time had come to take some of my own advice and get it fixed.

So today I finally sat down in my own chair and had a consultation with my girls to decide the best way to get me looking tip top again. The first thing I had to decide was if I wanted to keep my highlights; this would determine the next few steps of my service. While I love highlights on other people I’m not always crazy about them on myself so I decided to go back to my natural color. Since my hair was damaged and I wanted to avoid further issues I decided to use Redken’s Shades EQ color line, the best long-lasting, no-ammonia, demi-permanent haircolor.
Let me explain that last statement and WHY it is so important. Demi-permanent color such as Redken’s Shades EQ  enriches natural color, can refresh faded haircolor or tone highlighted hair. Demi-permanent haircolor does not lighten hair. It adds exceptional color, shine and conditioning to natural or color-treated hair without altering the natural pigment. Redken used to call it the color that conditions because it works so well and doesn’t cause any damage. THIS is exactly what I needed to get my hair back to its original color and not cause further issues. One of my stylists helped me choose my color and create a custom mix so we could also get rid of the brassiness and orange tones while at the same time getting my color to match. This cannot be accomplished with a box color, it can only be done by a professional.
The color service took about 15 minutes for application and then I sat for another 20 minutes while the Shades EQ worked it’s magic. After 35 minutes I had my awesome dark hair back and it looked pretty good. I was excited but we still had one more step to go. Even though the color was right the actual condition of the hair needed to be addressed so the color would last.
The next step was a Redken Chemistry Recovery Treatment, by far the best deep treatment I have EVER used for distressed hair. Redken Recovery is a professional in-salon service, that offers intense, customized treatments for whatever your hair needs – moisture, color protection, strength, softness, control, or a combination of these benefits. My needs were definitely moisture and color protection so my stylist again mixed a custom blend for my Recovery Treatment and applied it. I sat for 10 minutes while it worked its magic and then followed that service with Redken Color Extend Conditioner to further protect the color and be sure the magic was sealed in.
The result . . . I was THRILLED!! The color looked great, the condition of my hair looked great and I loved it!! I felt like myself again and couldn’t stop smiling. All in all the whole thing took about an hour and a half including the consultation, a quick trim on the ends and a blow out. That’s it, an hour and a half to happiness. If only everything were as easy as this.
