What is Pulp Riot?
Pulp Riot is a conditioner-based direct dye that is applied directly to the hair without using any developer. This means it is a semi-permanent color as it simply coats the outside of the hair and does not lift the cuticle layer, therefore not altering its chemistry. However, depending on your hair color and the level of vibrancy you’re hoping to achieve, your Hair Cuttery Stylist may need to lighten the hair before applying Pulp Riot, which will allow for brighter colors and enhance the longevity of your color. Pulp Riot will gradually fade through 20-40 washes and will lighten evenly. A few important fun-facts about Pulp Riot are that it’s quinoa seed based for incredible shine, cruelty-free, vegan, free of silicones, parabens, and MEA. When you think about colors, you need to break them down into two categories: warm and cool. Reds, oranges, and yellows are warm colors while blues, purples, and greens are cool. To identify a hair color that would positively accentuate your features, you first need to know what your skin undertone is.
A quick way to judge would be to look at the veins in your wrist in natural daylight. If they appear blue or purple, your skin is cool-toned, but if they’re green or olive, you’re warm-toned. If you really can’t tell, you might be neutral which means you have more flexibility with colors. Warm undertones tend to be golden, yellow or peachy while cool undertones are pink and bluish. The rule of thumb is that hair colors with the same undertone as your skin will work best to make you look stunning.
Warm Vs. Cool Tones
When thinking of fashion colors, you want to be careful not to choose a color that will wash you out. Those with cool undertones have to be a little more careful and may look best with more pastel varieties, while those with warmer undertones can be a little bolder with deep, vibrant colors. Let’s look at some of the base colors and what undertone they’d be best on:
- Cool: Many of the base colors lean more toward this category. Powder (light blue), Lilac (light purple), Mercury (light grey) and Blush (light pink) are vibrant yet cool and soft enough where they would joyfully accentuate a cool undertone. Nightfall (dark blue), Aquatic (medium green) and Velvet (dark purple) are still on the cool spectrum yet their depth might be too much for a cool, fair-skinned wearer, but a lovely option if slightly muted with Clear.
- Warm: The two obvious colors of warmth are Fireball (red) and Lemon (yellow). Left as is, these would make a solid accentuation for someone with a warm undertone; maybe even go for both colors at once, allowing areas to overlap for the perfect orange to tie them together.
