Hair Resolution: Commit to a Hair Care Routine

Just like working out or taking care of your skin, being consistent and developing a healthy routine is key to meeting your goals. A hair care routine will ensure that no matter the hairstyle, your hair will look shiny and healthy and it’s really quite simple to make a few tweaks to what your are probably already doing. Follow these steps to have a good hair care base routine:

  • Washing with the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type. Is your hair fine or thick, oily or dry? Look for products that address your hair issue or ask your HC stylist which haircare is best for you.
  • Use a hair treatment, like a deep conditioner, once a week. During the winter months, it’s important to deep condition to restore lost moisture since the hair is usually drier due to cold outside and heat inside. A weekly mask will make your hair feel like silk! We love Redken Mega Mask line for color treated hair, dry/brittle hair, or damaged/overprocessed hair.
  • Get regular trims, especially if you are trying to grow out your hair. A trim is a great way to keep hair healthy and free from split ends. It’s really the best way to prevent breakage and remove split ends entirely. We recommend getting a trim every 6-8 weeks for women/men with medium to long hair. If you have short hair, 4-6 weeks is ideal to maintain your haircut style. Be sure to re-book your next service before you leave the salon that way you’ll stick with your routine!
  • Choose a couple of days in the week to give your hair a break from heat styling. If this is tough for you, try to wash hair at night and let it air dry, they you can heat style in the morning. Another great way to keep hair healthy is to use heat styling products that protect hair during heat styling. We love Redken Iron Shape 11 or Cibu Sashini Thermal Shine Spray, both are HC stylist favs!

The secret to a great hairstyle is one that looks natural and effortless, and there’s no better way to get a natural look than to work with what Mother Nature gave you!

If your hair is curly then learn how to embrace your curls and wear them proud. If your hair is straight then make the most of it and show it off with pretty half up half down hairstyles. Hairdos that cater for and enhance your natural hair texture and density will ensure that you don’t waste time fighting your locks every morning and that you end up with a look that naturally suits you. Plus, you will do much less damage if you resist trying to tame your natural texture.
