Summer 2011 Hair Trends

Alicia Boal

As summer is well under way, it may just be time for a new hairstyle. Check out some of the newest trends we’ve noticed in popular magazines.

Longer Bob: The traditional bob takes a new twist – literally! Waves are in for this laid-back season. Ask your Stylist to create long layers. After showering, towel-dry hair and apply a product like Redken Ringlet 07 Curl Perfector before letting hair air dry. Skip the blowdryer – your hair deserves to relax during the summer, too! Check out Gwyneth Paltrow!

Go Ginger: Red is in! If you’re bored with your color and somewhat ready for a change, think about opting for a red hue. Redken’s Color Extend Sun (pictured below) is perfect for keeping your color through the damaging heat and conditions of the summer. Blake Lively changed from her traditional blonde for her role in the movie "Hick," but maybe she should think about keeping it this way for a bit.

Braids are Back: Use them however you want! French braid your bangs to keep them out of your face and avoid the sweaty “stuck on you” look on your forehead (yuck!), braid hair before wrapping it into a bun, or create a classic side-braid. Avoid looking school-girly by keeping the braid voluminous and slightly messy – in a good way.  Spray a product like Redken Wool Shake 08 on a braid and massage it to make it look rougher and imperfect.  Taylor Swift balances out the braids with cute ringlets on the opposite side.

Stop by any Hair Cuttery to change your cut, color, or pick up the products mentioned above. Your Stylist can recommend products specific to your needs and even show you how to use them; just ask!
